Diane
Kubarek (soprano)
Diane has sung soprano with the group since February 1990. She particularly
enjoys singing the rich sonorities of the Italian Renaissance, including
such composers as Palestrina, Byrd, Gesualdo, and Monteverdi. Her favorite
solo work she's performed is Samuel Barber's Hermit Songs.
Diane's involvement in the group goes beyond the music; Diane served
for five years as Treasurer on the group's Board of Directors, and contributed
to many aspects of concert production during that time. She also served for many more years as bookkeeper, and continues to maintain the group's Web site.
She also headed up the production of the group's first CD.
Diane is the director of the Office of Web Communications at Cornell University. Her office is responsible for helping Cornell use the Web as an effective communication tool, and for promoting cohesiveness and consistency within the vast Cornell Web space. Her office oversees and maintains Cornell's main Web site, http://www.cornell.edu/.
Diane is also a quilter, and loves taking day-long trips to quilt shops
(sometimes with fellow singer Fran Shumway) searching for fabric. Her husband Keith owns and operates his own Web design and development company, One Bad Ant. She
and her husband Keith enjoy travel, gardening, their house in the woods,
and their two cats.
Diane graduated from Wells College with a bachelor's degree in math,
where she studied voice under Professor Crawford Thoburn and gave junior
and senior voice recitals. Though her degree field of study does not reflect
it, she says "I spent at least as much time in rehearsal as I did on my
coursework, if not more!"
