Steven Shumway
(tenor)
Steve resides in McLean, NY and is a graduate of Mansfield University,
where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He has been a member of the
CVE since 1996. Steve has appeared frequently with NYS Baroque, as a
soloist and chorus member, and performs regularly as tenor section leader
and soloist with The Chorus of the Southern Finger Lakes Symphony. In
addition, he has performed as guest soloist with the Ithaca Community
Chorus, Elmira Cantata Singers, and at Colgate University, Hamilton
College, Mansfield University, and SUNY Cortland. His recent solo credits
include J.S. Bach's B-minor Mass, C.P.E. Bach's Magnificat, Beethoven's
Mass in C, and Mozart's Requiem. Steve has also participated in a number
of music education programs targeted to young audiences, through the
Ithaca-based Music's Recreation.
Steve is currently employed as the Business Manager of Cornell University's International Students and Scholars Office. He finds it gratifying to be part of an organization that is dedicated to providing such important service to Cornell's international community and appreciates the tremendous contributions that international students and scholars bring to Cornell and to our community.
In addition to singing, Steve's greatest joy comes from spending time in the woods hiking and cross-country skiing with his wife, and favorite singer, Fran.
